Dateline: September 8, 2010 Seattle, WA

Happy Birthday to Barry!
It has long been the family theory that the best birthday for our beloved patriarch is to leave  Barry alone...In that spirit let me show you a picture of how he spent his day:

Barry and Wick spent the day browsing the actual Grizzly showroom in Bellingham, WA.

Happy Birthday Barry!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Gwen and Beth descended on Greg and Jeannie's house for the culminating act of Beth's transformation into a Domestic Goddess... In case any of you a sensing a shimmer in the Force, you needn't worry.  We made a mess - big, big mess - but produced several batches of beautiful Blackberry Pepper Jam.  See below:
The Perfect Window Tableau

Now it may bear repeating here that things didn't go exactly as planned...For one thing, Gwen is an over-achiever and picked way too many blackberries which necessitated buying a whole bunch of jars and bucketloads of sugar, pectin, vinegar by the gallon, and barrels of HOT Thai Chili Peppers.  Did I mention HOT??

We have washed, scrubbed, soaked in milk, I'm even ready to try peeing on my wounds at this point I'd do anything to get the burning to STOP!!! Ouch!  Ouch!  Ouch!  This isn't jam!  Its bear spray!!! Now I remember why I abandoned all this Happy Homemaker crap!!  It is really, really dangerous!

A huge thank you to Jeannie for guiding us through this life-threatening experience.  I'm prepared to publically admit and to hold you harmless for injuries incurred when I essentially couldn't follow your basic directions:
  1. Wear gloves when handling peppers.
  2. Don't touch your eyes, mouth, nose, anything really.
  3. Don't scratch anything no matter how much you itch.
  4. You might want to wear gloves.........

  1. Wow, this maybe first time you have tried to declare brilliance and had it actually affect you negatively in the end. Oh wait, have we done a family head count to make sure no one is missing?

  2. I'm sure the loyal readers of this blog are wondering how someone as delightfully nice as me produced a mean-spirited child like you...
