Here is Barry just outside our dinner locale for the evening. 

We moved on this morning just a few miles up the road past Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  We are definately in Cajun Country and in fact are camping at the Poche (pronounced Poe-shay) Plantation.  We are deep in bayou country with deep piney woods, roaring cicadas, incredible humidity producing a red zone heat index but boy by howdy this is an incredible place!  They have yet to approach us for payment because the caretaker is having a busy day.  He did say we shouldn't miss the dinner tonight at Hymel's.  He told us to show up about 5:30 but not be in any hurry to order. He announced that it was "Fiddling Night."  We wondered  what he meant right up until the music of the River Rats started!  This is a true blue Cajun band complete with fiddle, accordian, harmonica and guitar.  It twangs and whines just exactly like you've seen in  the movies.   Do you all see the squirrel nailed to the wall behind our accordianist?

Tonight was an all you can eat shrimp boil, but, of course we couldn't leave it at that.... Barry ordered the hush puppies, cat fish, crab, stuffed shrimp, and fried oysters.  As long as he'd gone that far Beth added frogs legs to his order and some oysters on the half shell for good measure.  In case any of you ever wondered what a Cajun shrimp boil looks like and how froggy a frogs legs are we are graciously including a picture of our dining experience. The shrimp boil is spicy, spicy hot and apparently there was a, uh... bit of dribble onto Beth's hands which are now on fire -- burning, itching, and generally covered with shrimp boil badness!

We are here for two nights and if it weren't for the allure of the Disney Wonder and seeing all the kids again I'm not entirely sure we'd be willing to leave anytime soon.  We'll try to get some pictures of the bayou homes and the other end of the spectrum: the plantation houses.  Tomorrow:  Bourbon Street.  It's been nice knowing you all.
