DATELINE: Monday, July 12, 2010 Karen and Gary Cannon's House

We had a wonderful time visiting with our old friends Karen and Gary at their home in Jay, Oklahoma.  Over a decade ago Karen and Gary decided that their retirement plan was to move from California to the weirdest and most remote reaches of the country. We spent many great times as Concord neighbors and had fun resurrecting some of those good times during our stay.    What we can't now resist however is this commentary:

Top 10 Ways to Know You're in Oklahoma:

#10  When you own 2 pick-up trucks - one for everyday drivin' and one for goin' to the dump.
#9  When you don't entertain folks outside because you can't have a conversation over the roar of the locusts.
#8  When the road sign says "dip" and the front of your car is going to go up before the back end makes it to the bottom.
#7  When your idea of a night on the town is going to the Walmart at 10 o'clock.
#6  When your new hobby is going to the junk shops but you already have everything they've got.
#5  When you own 30 acres so you have a place to throw your old stove when you're done with it.
#4  When you take the old stove to the back 30 you find old cars your didn't know you owned.
#3  When your neighbor keeps his cows in the front yard because he doesn't want them knocking down over the outhouse.
#2  When you put your goats in the front yard because you don't want to mow the grass and then wonder what happened to your flowers.
and the #1 way to know you're in Oklahoma:

You don't call the newspaper to place your "missing dog" advertisement.  You just buy you a couple pieces of plywood and some of that neon spray paint!
