Gwen and I emerged from the Tourbuses yesterday dressed practically like twins:
Well, we
were in lovely contrasting colors for our foray into the Park with about 100,000 of our very best friends. Yikes! What's with that for a Sunday afternoon in March? Great weather - actually record highs according to last night's L.A. Bimbo Weather Watch. Now, I'm not just being snarky here - any of you who have watched L.A. television news and especially weather KNOW that they have to be hiring defunct, former porn stars (not that I have any idea what one of those would look like, mind you).
Heather joined us for a Disney Day this morning and when I emerged from the rig she was standing there in a red and white striped top - practically identical to my own. Wow! Must be gonna be some kind of day. We got to play "Only Child" with Heather all day and had a grand time -- you can see what this kind of attention does for the baby of any family:
Now, as good a day as this represents, it was not all good news. No matter how many rounds of Midway Mania we tried none of us could best Wick's wicked fairground skills. Heather and I did our best but my Hello Helen arms just wouldn't keep up and Heather claimed she didn't have enough practice time.
These were Heather's and my scores, Wick and Gwen
claim breaking 200,000 but we saw only the flimsiest of evidence to indicate such an achievement....
We were joined for dinner in the park by Brian who is stationed with the Coast Guard in Long Beach. We had a great visit and things were going along swimmingly right until Barry opened his fortune cookie:

"YOU ARE NEXT IN LINE FOR PROMOTION"
|
This sparked a lively debate regarding just how one might "promote" upward from retirement. Someone finally decided that "CONSULTANT" was probably a retirement-type job upgrade that many people seem to take on. Barry, with great flourish, declared himself a "CONSULTANT" and was completely nonplussed when we asked him just what he would be "consulting" on. Before the next breath could be drawn he announced that now that he was officially a "consultant" he would be charging every time anybody wants to talk to him. People (read "our children") wishing not only to speak to him but to actually ask questions can expect to pay particularly heavy "consultant" fees. Now, to me, this all smacks horribly of that rule he put in place disallowing mobile phones calls back to the house when the caller is within 15 miles of same. Give this man a teeny bit of power - even if it does come inside a fortune cookie - and all our lives just get more challenging.
We are onward and upward (okay, I guess it is actually downward on the map) to San Diego tomorrow. Stay tuned.
