A Sandy Eggo Retrospective

With a nod to our good friend Kenny Walter of CHP Peer Support fame, tonight you are going to become privy to the "down low" on wonderful time in Sandy Eggo (get it? "Sandy Eggo?" San Diego??).  We've had several days of  adventure in beautiful and sunny San Diego.  Now the Bimbette (not a full bimbo like L.A. but close, really close, especially on the night she seemed to have on only a silky bra-like item under her jacket) anyway, back to the Bimbette, kept squawking about how cold it was going to be but every time we left the rigs we were forced to shed clothing.  I say this primarily because it upsets our sons to think about their parents shedding clothes, but it was pretty warm.

We took advantage of the sunshine to visit the zoo, the animal safari (twice), the Pt. Loma Lighthouse, the Museum of Natural History and the Tijuana River Valley Nature Preserve.  We've bird-watched, whale-sought (no see - just sought), Titanic explored, animal watched, Segway ridden and beat each other up over dominoes.

I think it looks like we should be able to see whales...
We went to the Museum of Natural History to see the Titanic Exhibit and as weird as it may sound really enjoyed it.  Everybody was issued a replica boarding pass with the name of an actual Titanic passenger.  The exhibit was staged as a timeline from the building and launching of the ship to actual stateroom set-ups.  There was a timeline for the sinking and a humongous chunk of ice to touch to give you the 4-D experience of what it was like for those that went in the water.  Maybe the most amazing part to me was the amount  of paper that survived in the depths all these years.  They said it was because most paper was enclosed in people's leather wallets, luggage and portfolios.  It has to do with the tanning process of leather -- apparently it renders it inedible to sea critters.  Better take that as a lesson next time you decide you want to chew on your purse or something...

Today we went back to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Safari (which is neither a safari, nor in San Diego).  We went for the express purpose of taking the "Rolling Safari Tour" and after only a small amount of deceit during the waiver paperwork we mounted our two-wheeled chariots and scooted all around the back roads of the safari area.  What a blast.  We consider ourselves somewhat expert in Segway riding at this point and luckily this confidence did not result in any disasters.  See for your self how completely cool we all look:

Well gang, as of tomorrow we are headed south and east.  Yep.  South.  The SPOT gps tracker is turned on so stay tuned as we flirt with the danger that is birding along the California-Mexico border.  Ariba! Ariba!

  1. I think there is a bit of "Artistic License" going on here. Clearly you have failed to interpret the Father's look in the whale "seeking" photo. That's the look of "You're crazy woman, that's a rock!"

  2. You weren't even there. Father was looking steadfastly.
